Liz Lynne MEP and pieces of the Berlin Wall at the European Parliament, which is marking 20 years since the popular revolution which tore the wall down.
The 20th anniversary of the popular revolution which led to the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the extension of democracy to much of Eastern Europe were remembered at a special session of the European Parliament today.
As part of the celebrations that are continuing all week, pieces of the original Berlin wall have been placed on display around the European Parliament in Brussels.
West Midlands Lib Dem MEP Liz said today: "To have parts of the original Berlin wall outside the European Parliament is a stark reminder of the struggle that so many of our European neighbours and indeed some of my MEP colleagues faced, to win their freedom 20 years ago this week."
"We must never forget the impact that this wall had on lives of so many people. Not only was it a physical barrier which separated families and friends, it was a symbol of repression and division which haunted a generation.
"This weeks celebrations highlight to me just how much progress we have made towards a united and free European Union in recent years"
